Knowledge Communities

A major challenge to people in developing countries is a lack of access to good, practical information to help them achieve their goals, find partners, and learn from the successful experiences of others. The spread of the Internet is starting to change that. But then the problem becomes one of sifting and evaluating the vast amount of available information.

Development Gateway Foundation's Knowledge Communities Program directly addresses this situation with respect to many critical development issues. Our dgCommunities Web platform provides a space for professional learning and collaboration among those working to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development practices worldwide.

Benefiting Members in 200 Countries

Tens of thousands of professionals use dgCommunities, in 200 countries. Members recommend knowledge and information resources to each other, including practical online tools and guidelines across key domains of expertise. They find information about events, Web sites, and news in their areas of interest. They disseminate research, project ideas, and success stories. And, critically, they are able to connect with each other and to larger global efforts that may be of help in their work.

International Collaboration and Partnerships

Collaboration is at the heart of dgCommunities. More than 500 individuals and organizations work as volunteer guides and advisors for 30 topic areas. They are specialists in their fields, and come from around the world.

Openness, Tolerance, Respect

Membership in dgCommunities is free and open to all. Any member can submit content for posting. A guiding principle is tolerance and respect for all views, with no preference or bias as to the source of content submitted by a community member or partner organization.
